Michael Wells is a double board-certified dermatologist and fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon. He earned his Bachelor of Science from the University of Central Arkansas, graduating with Alpha Chi honors, and completed medical school at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, where he was the top student in pathology and anatomy and was inducted into the AOA medical honor society.

He served as an assistant instructor during his Internal Medicine internship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, then completed his dermatology residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, serving as chief resident in his final year.

Texas Tech invited him to stay on as faculty, where he rose to tenured associate professor and received numerous Dean's awards between 2001 and 2012. He went on to complete a Mohs Micrographic Surgery Fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas.

Dr. Wells remains deeply engaged with the academic side of the specialty. He serves as an Assistant Editor of the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology (JAAD), the specialty's preeminent peer-reviewed journal, has served as an editor for e-medicine, and has authored chapters for clinical decision-making resources. He is active in the Texas Medical Association.

Dr. Wells is married and has three grown children.
